Carols in the Domain 2018

Ah, the Jubilation calendar is not complete without a whole lot of backstage shananigans from Carols in the Domain and this year was no exception!

Highlights (in no particular order): backstage Yahtzee, rolling a DOUBLE YAHTZEE on beginners luck不, hangs with the Jubie family, belting out a good ol’ gospel tune with the ah-mazing Paulini, having MASSIVE stage hair (thanks to Jenn and her teasing comb!), backstage sing-a-longs, awkward (but hilarious) side-stage conversations, unobscured views of the fireworks (the poor bats!) … the list is endless!

Lowlights:our performance was over too quick, not having enough Jubie time, being mozzie bait due the previous night’s downpour.

Me no speak Latin … until now

This pic was taken side stage just as we were getting ready to perform to a whole lot of Nonnas and Nonnos at Club Italia last night … ah the dream time! Note the big cheesy smile on my face … yep this moment was captured BEFORE I found out there was a Latin verse 3 (as in the language of Ancient Rome and it’s empire, unknown and dead to the modern world) in O Come All Ye Faithful… oh so you didn’t know about the Latin verse 3 … yeh neither did I until I was already on stage and said verse comes up on the overhead screen. Ah there’snothing like flying by the seam of my skirt with these kids! Bwahahahahhahah!

A Jubilicious Christmas to one and all!

Wishing everyone a very Jubilicious Christmas! A little sneaky pic from last night’s happy place – Jubilation singers singing up a storm on Avalon Beach for Carols on the Beach* 2018.

*not only is this one of the most joyous, fun-filled gigs on the Jubilation calendar, it is also the time where @miss_bless and I get to brush off our inner Mariah Careys and belt out ‘All I want for Christmas” as a duet. Ah, the season is complete!

Happy 3rd Annual Musical Garden Party!

Woohoo! 3rd Annual Musical Garden party is done and dusted! What an incredible year of music making! I’m blown away by these kids; their love for singing and music, their curiosity and thirst for knowledge and their unrelenting drive to find their place in the world. I am so proud of each and every one of these kids and feel incredibly privileged to be called their teacher. I can’t wait to see what 2019 has install for them all – onwards and upwards!

Remember these faces; you’re looking at tomorrow’s music industry here =) (side note: musical talent does not equate to knowing which direction the picture will be taken from #wherewerewealllooking =p hahahaha) A massive thank you to all who came out in support of these young budding musicians! #nowforaglassofwine

Jubilation at Carols on the Beach, Avalon

Ah, one of the great joys of Christmas is being able to bring the festive cheer as part of Jubilation to Carols on the Beach at Avalon. Thankfully this year the power stayed on for the whole gig (last year the power shorted in the middle of the set and we were left to sing in the dark with only Moses on drums to accompany us – the show must go on!) and the crowd lavished us with their love and attention as we sang and danced the night away. To my fellow Jubes, love you girls to the moon and back! A massive thank you to the organisers for having us and for always putting on an amazing spread afterwards =p #bestgreenroomtreatment and last but certainly not the least, thank you to Joy and Dave for your constant love, leadership and for all that you have made Jubilation to be.

Happy First Birthday Monday Ditties!

Today marks 12 months worth of #mondayditties =p woohoo! It was a little project initially started to justify buying an iPhone outright (it wasn’t the latest iPhone, however it was still a substantial outlay of funds!) but it has now become just part of my working week. It’s been interesting the many conversations I’ve had with people who have caught it on social media, some who even hang out for Monday just to see what I’m going to post next (does that mean I have an actual following???) … from creative peers, to parents of students, to students themselves (which is a little disconcerting when I have primary school aged students mentioning my #mondayditties to me – they may have liked my outfit, song or makeup or hated all choices featured in the video … =p) people seem to be enjoying my little ditties. YAY! So Happy Birthday #MondayDitties here’s to more #musicmaking and a big thank you to all for your comments, likes, dislikes, suggestions and generally for hitting play when you see a little Monday video posted. If you want to get in on the fun follow me on Instagram or FB =)

Here’s a selection of screen shots from my ditties #IpullfunnylookswhenIsing =p

Braga Jazz Night – the write up!

“A superb quality of jazz singing from a charming, warm-hearted lady from Sydney has added a wonderful story of this event. Jessica is a remarkable singer who has it all. She doesnt need to show off. She sings from her heart, get totally into each song and keep the beauty of the melody, resulting a heartfelt performance.” Jazzuality

Gosh talk about a killer write up! The joy and honour was all mine! Thanks Jazzuality!

Hello Java, Indonesia

So … after 10+ years of emails, Skype sessions and miscellaneous messages, I had the great privilege to visit my dear uni friend Michelle, a phenomenal keys player/ musician/ band leader/ teacher and all round fantastic human, in her hometown of Bandung on the island of Java, Indonesia. 2 weeks of music, eating, catching up with old friends and connecting with new ones, more music, more eating and so much beautiful hospitality; my heart overflows with love for all whom I met (particularly Michelle and her family), made music with (more details in the next post), and had the privilege to teach, share and encourage within M.E Music Centre, where Michelle is the director. Of course no trip is complete without a little bit of touristy fun and a bit of extra travelling so here are some highlights of the trip …
